I've written some songs songs. I played them for a man I know and trust. he is a professional musician. He went and got a complete stranger and had me play it for them. They both are in love with my music now and they advised me to get and official copyright. well, i want to but idk how. they told me to record my music onto a CD, type up the lyrics and chord progrssions, and send them to Washington to be copyrighted. but idk where to send them or what to do from there. any advice?

The Library of Congress handles copyright registration.

However, copyrights exist whether or not they are registered: they are created automatically, by operation of law, at the moment you enter the composition down onto something from which it can be retrieved, be it a computer, a piece of paper, etc.
