Yes it was so hard to read. I cried at the end then felt really angry. I don't think I could be around the man's biological mom b/c I might hit her with my car. I hate the woman that much. I do wonder if she is in jail now or in a mental hospital or some kind of permanant rehab place or living in the streets drinking herself to death.
In a English class the teacher made a interesting point on how the man would feel if he met his mom again.

I've read it and it was an awful (as in tragic) story.

He went on to write a few more and even his brother has now released a book based on his experiences.

One thing this book did do (it is about 7 years old now) was open the floodgates for all the personal story books that have been released.

Some people find them depressing - I do, but other people love them for some reason.

It is a true story and there is a follow up book of his life but I can't remember what it's called. I'll have a look and see if I can put it on an edit. It was a very moving story.
The sequel is called The lost child

It is the saddest book I have ever read. I have also read the next one called The Lost Boy.
I believe it. I believe that child abuse is more common than most people would like to think. This book has opened lots of eyes!

It is a true story. I wonder why you find it hard to believe. Maybe you were lucky with the throw of life's dice. Some people have an extremely hard up bringing.

yes it is true. I know it is hard to believe but it makes you realise how cruel this world really can be. He has also wrote other books on his life growing up in foster care, also how he is now as a grown man, looking after his son. David's brother has also wrote a book on how he saw things as he was growing up. Now that David's book was a success, you will find a lot of true stories out there, about other peoples lives how they grew up in a world of abuse.

It is a very sad book, but it is true. He has been interviewed on several talk shows. Just look at the terrible things that are happening to children now days and that should make it believable.

A Child Called "It" by David Pelzer 1993

I have to confess, I've not read the book, however, here is an extensive list of reviews by people that have read it, I hope that will be OK.

……….‘A Child Called It’ follows David Pelzer’s early years as he relives his story, and his struggles to fight against his mother. His school finally realise what is happening and he is taken away from his mother which is where the tale finishes. I say ‘tale’ but this is a true story which took place during the 1970’s in California. It was one of the 3 worst cases of child abuse in Californian history. More…….

“I just finished reading the tragic story of a young boys struggle to survive. I am reading this story for a class that I am taking and have not put it down since I opened it. While reading, all I could feel is ANGER. I could not believe the things Dave had to endure. I found myself in complete shock and in tears. This story has open my eyes to the sad reality of "child abuse". I am studying to become a teacher, and am aware that I will be in contact with students who have stories like Daves. It is my responsibility to make myself aware of these harsh siuations and am determined to do whatever I can do in order to prevent a story like Daves to occur again.”
