Having being enrolled in special ed for k-12 made me more politically concious.

Because effectively recieving that education depended on knowing how bureacracy worked and to a greater extent at an earlier age than my classmates without disabilities, I became conversant with and and interested in public affairs.

I very much participated in all of the normal things which other people my age did. But I also knew how to file for hearings..etc.

It depends on how you define special education.

Inclusive education can be considered a form of special education.

Inclusive education has provided kids with the opportunity to be kids with each other and no one is special. Everyone realizes that we all need special accommodations to succeed - so they really aren't special at all. These same kids grow up to be adults with each other - and what they learned going to school as peers carries over intot heir adult working and social life.
