Certain blood tests have to be performed when a person hasn't had anything to drink or eat after midnight. For example, blood sugar levels, cholesterol ( Lipid) panel. Such tests, while a person has been NPO ( nothing to eat or drink after midnight) provide more accurate test results. Food and sugar content after midnight , will give the test(s) an abnormal or elevated reading.Yeah, it's hard to not have your morning cup of coffee and a bagel but, if you want accurate results, then you have to go along with the instructions. I hope that this helps.

Part of your blood test will include a glucose test and this cannot be done if you eat anything beforehand as it would raise your glucose in your blood If you do eat anything it is a waste of time as your test will be of no use

Because this gives you the 'bottom line'. This is the lowest you can expect the sugar and cholesterol figures to be.

If you have just eaten then the levels of sugar and cholesterol are determined by what you have just eaten - not by your body's ability to handle these substances.

Ask if it is for the amount of sugar in the blood.

If so= nothing
