It is not a proper goal of US government to "destroy poverty." In the US, we pursue equality of opportunity as a reasonable goal of government, which is why we have publically funded education. We have welfare so that children do not starve because of the poor choices of their parents.
People are still responsible for their own choices and the outcome of those choices.

Nobody in power really wants to do that. Without the poor there can be no rich. Why do you think the minimum wage is kept so low? It keeps the economy great for the people that matter at the expense of the ones that don't.

Cant destroy but reduce by holding everyone to a standard- no excuses- help people gain the tools to advance and send them on their way to self sufficiency. What holds people back is others who believe that they cannot achieve on their own- it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Can not be done. The simple answer is because although we hate to admit it, there are individuals in our society that don't have ambition. They don't care that they live in a run down house, eat unhealthy and poorly prepared meals, and have no heat. That to them is better than the alternative of going to work in a sweat shop all day and paying bills. We have a segment in our society that actually move from city to city, run up bills, (lease and apartment and never make a payment), get evicted, move on to the next city. We have homeless people that live in the alley and have been given options by church and social agencies and still go back to their alley. Some people just don't want to be helped.

Most agree that having children before women complete their education is one of the indicators of poverty
Secure our borders and stop the influx of poor illegal aliens and make it a felony to not admit you are illegal and have no intention of paying your hospital bill . Reward young women in poor communities for not having babies. Make all women on welfare with children older than 6 weeks old to go to school or work, but provide child care, transportation fare, and health care. It's seems mean to send women to work with a newborn, but you see if everyday in the work force where women only get 6 weeks maternity leave. In order for a women to get welfare, she has to name the father, if she says she has been rape, she has to fill out a police report, and give the babies DNA to try to locate the father. Then demand the fathers provide child support and if they do not put them in jail

Perhaps if Americans were to see how their definition of poverty compares to the rest of the world's definition...

Lazy parents can get a job to feed their kids instead of living on welfare!
If illegal mexicans can come here and get a job normal Americans ought to do it too!
