Yes you can.
No matter how slim the chances may be, EVERY WOMAN IS DIFFERENT, so are her hormonal balances and hence her menstrual cycle.

In order to get pregnant, a sperm must meet and fertilize an egg, so any factors that affect this also affect your fertility. These include: the timing of ovulation, how long the egg lasts, whether there are any sperm present and how long sperm can live inside you.
Women who have regular periods can easily calculate when ovulation occurs. Ovulation almost always happens 14 days before you expect your period. For a woman who has 28 day cycles, that would be in the exact middle of the cycle, 14 days after the last period and 14 days before the next one. Women who have 30 day cycles can expect to ovulate 16 days after the last period, which is 14 days before the next one. Since most women have periods that last from 4-7 days, the chances of getting pregnant during your period are very low.
There is an important exception to this, however. Women who have irregular cycles cannot predict when they will ovulate. Furthermore, many women who have irregular periods also have episodes of irregular bleeding that are not periods, even though they look like periods. If you have sex during an episode of irregular bleeding, you might ovulate soon thereafter, and therefore you could get pregnant.

I've heard both "yes" and "no" from different doctors on this question. A friend of mine - his sister got pregnant with her 2nd child during her period (quite a surprise to her, but they were happy to add another to the family) - so I believe, technically, it is possible - it just doesn't happen that often. A doctor once told me that you can never determine when the egg has left your body during your cycle, so there is always a slim possibility that, even though some of your uterine lining has been shed, the egg has not.

It is possible, just not as likely. There was a study done on this (click on the link below to see it). It found that women who reported regular periods had up to a 6% probability of being fertile on the day that menstruation was expected to start.

yes you can, it happened to me. the reason why is because the body probably ovulated late during the cycle that month and the periods started fast, therefor the egg is still in the uterus and ready to be fertilized.
Answer to Christopher: you are wrong. you dont need to be ovulating to get pregnant, as a ectopic pregnancy is when the egg is still in the fallopian tubes but still can be fertilized. Also, sperm doesn't live long after being ejaculate. Though it is in the uterus in a warm environment, the sperm usually can live for 2 to 4 days inside the female body.

Theoretically no, but why take the chance. Let's say your ovary releases another egg towards the end of your period, technically your still on your period, but now you have an egg that could potentially be fertilized. Maybe that sounds far fetched, but the human body is a mystery at times. My point is; If your going to have sex and don't want to get pregnant, use protection at all times!!!!

you can only get pregnant when you ovulate, you know you ovulated because you will get menstruation 14 days after, now, sperm can live inside you for quite some time so if you happen to have some inside you and ovulate very soon after menstruation...it is possible you may become pregnant
