Turn the stuff over to the police along with all correspondence. If they don't want it, throw it away. Shred anything with your name on it and throw it away. Don't get involved. Don't get sucked in.
Why on earth would you want to get involved in something that will first, only hurt you and second, is illegal. The police have told you not to cash the checks. Don't do it. Offer them to the police or get rid of them.

You need to contact the Attorney General of your state, along with the states attorney, they need to notified of this stuff. The local police won't do anything until you do what the instructions ask then thy come looking for you.
The States attorney will file charges againest the individuals that sent you these checks, this is felony Graud and is a punisable offense. Also the Attorney General has the ability to get the Feds involved, and you might ne asked to help to bring these folks to justice. You can call crime stoppers also, thay may pay you for reporting this and ask for help prosecuting the individuals involved.
Good Luck!

Did you confirm with American Express that the checks were bogus or stolen? (I'm sure they are, just making sure all bases were covered) If they are somehow good, then cash them and keep the money. Otherwise, just send them to the cops or Amex. You can't really stop them from sending you anything else, but if you don't send them money, they'll probably leave you alone.

Contact your local Postal Inspector, this is using the U.S. Mail to commit FRAUD. Right now the Postal Service has a big push on to inform the public about this very SCAM!!

Good Luck.

You can just shred them unless the police want them for their investigation. Call American Express and ask them what to do they might care since it it their name that is being used for this scam.

I would hire somebody to track them down.

I am sure American Express will be very interested if you find them and they will give you a reward big enough to recover all your expenses.
