I have a two and a half month old who has started to refuse to sleep in the last few days. He's sleeping less than 10 hours day (including the night). He's fussy, cranky, etc. He doesn't have a fever. He's not hungry. His diaper output has been the same as always. His clothes are comfortable and not too tight. The temperature is fine.

Any ideas?

Try the following:

*Mylecon - he may be gassy:(
*A noise maker (if you don't have one, try the vaccuum)
*A swing (if you don't have one)
*PACIFIER - that might be what you need, I was against it at first, but at 7 weeks, my son was really fussy all the time, and we gave him a paci then...it changed our lives!
*If you are nursing, watch your diet closely. Avoid dairy, broccolli, garlic, and other things that my upset your belly (bc it will upset his too)

He may even be colicky...

My daughter started this when she was a month old, it went from sleeping all day long and all night long then at the drop of a pin it reversed completely. For the past month we struggled with my daughter staying awake non stop, crying all the time and like you we did everything right. Finally we switched her formula to a soy based formula and things start getting better, she still stays awake quite a bit throughout the day, but doesn't fuss half as much and only wakes up once during the night.
How much are you feeding her? My daughter was not getting enough, we upped the amount we were giving her to 6 ounces spaced 5 hours apart and does wonderfully.
Does your daughter have any other signs other than sleep deprivation and crying? Does she spit up alot, grunt or cry when feeding? arch of the back? There are some things that can cause this such as a food allergy, acid reflex, lactose intolerant, gas in the intestines(which can be painful for baby) it could also be that he is going through a growth spurt which should resolve within a couple days to a week.

If your worried about it then you may need to set up an appointment with his doctor which you should do anyways just to be on the safe side.
hope all is well, good luck!

"What is a growth spurt?
During a growth spurt, breastfed babies nurse more often than usual (sometimes as often as every hour) and often act fussier than usual.

The increase in baby's milk intake during growth spurts is temporary. In exclusively breastfed babies, milk intake increases quickly during the first few weeks of life, then stays about the same between one and six months. As solids are gradually introduced after six months, baby's milk intake will gradually decrease.

Physical growth is not the only reason that babies may have a temporary need for increased nursing. Babies often exhibit the same type of behavior (increased nursing with or without increased fussiness) when they are working on developmental advances such as rolling over, crawling, walking or talking. Mom's milk is for growing the brain as well as the body!

When do babies have growth spurts?
Common times for growth spurts are during the first few days at home and around 7-10 days, 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks, 3 months, 4 months, 6 months and 9 months (more or less). Babies don't read calendars, however, so your baby may do things differently."

Could be a growth spurt. They either sleep more or get restless. My son sleeps more.

If you aren't already doing one, try a sleep routine (e.g. bath, books, etc.). He may also fall asleep more readily in your arms until he is through it.

I wish I did. You covered all the basis. I would call the pediatrician. The doctor may okay some really watered-down rice cereal before naps to help him sleep. Good luck.

Most probably your baby is colicky or tummy gas bothering him. In both cases Babies magic tea will relieve him.
