My mother is flying to San Fran. To go sailing with an old friend. She has never been sailing nor has she ever been to Cal. She will be there next week and is unsure what to pack. They will be going to some nice places to eat...so if you could suggest what she might need based on temps and sailing that would be GREAT! Thanks!!!

Sailing requires layers of clothing, it is cold on the bay even on hot days. Outer layer of water proof clothing is advisable and a good pair of rubber soled shoes is mandetory. SF weather is pretty temprate year round the secret is layers, always bring a lightweight jacket, an umbrella and sun glasses, because you never know which combination of the 3 you will need.

For dinner attire at a nice restaurant, a dress or nice slacks with a blouse. Most places don't have dress codes and she can even wear jeans if she desires.

Sailing at this time of year will be cold. Tell her to expect temp ranging anywhere from 40-60 F. A life jacket is recommended, and should be provided by the vessel's captain.

Tell her to be prepared for lots of cold wind. I assume they are sailing on the S.F. Bay. Layers & a good windbreaker. Gloves. Sunglasses. Non-slip shoes. Thermos with hot coffee or tea. Rum.
