The main thing you need to understand is that on the Internet there will be all kinds of people who will answer your questions. Some will do so in a nice way and some will do so in a mean way. The people who go around insulting others and being mean are only doing so because they realize that they are behind their computers and feel that they are anonymous and that they can do and say pretty much whatever they want to do and say. You just have to weed out those people who do those things and focus more on the people who give positive and good contributions to your questions. Oh and one more thing it's like this in every category. Trolls roam around all day and on all sections.

Just remember what is almost a truism in sales - for every person who complains, there are probably at least ten who are just as or more unsatisfied and don't bother to tell you... they just never engage your services again.

While I know many who crave constructive criticism, I know of few who enjoy the destructive kind. But even the worst kinds of criticism are a sign that you are not reaching your audience. I would hope that Socrates would have been sufficient example of what happens when you let that go too far, neh?

any attempt to control the responses of participants would only deepen the existing rules of ethics and create an environment of rigidity and insecurity.

Philosophy discussion is already a waste of time and only suited for entertainment, why would adding rules or ethics to a forum help?

No understanding is possible as there is really nothing to understand other than what the symbols for each culture mean.

Let them insult, it is the fact that any offense is taken should alarm you that you are taking something as trivial as a yahoo discussion board too seriously.

Who are they insulting anyway? Does anyone here 'know' anyone else? Aren't they really only expressing disdain for an idea?
