If Bush really believed in DEMOCRACY he would have ceded the election to Gore in 2000 since Gore got more votes than he did. Also he would recognize all democratically elected leaders all over the world.

Bush likely believes in democratic rights generally, but is only in favor of democracies that he believes benefit his people (who his people are is up for debate).

I believe that freedom is the deepest need of every human soul.
George W. Bush, Press Conference, White House, Tuesday, April 13, 2004
For too long, many nations, including my own, tolerated, even excused, oppression in the Middle East in the name of stability. Oppression became common, but stability never arrived. We must take a different approach. We must help the reformers of the Middle East as they work for freedom, and strive to build a community of peaceful, democratic nations.
George W. Bush, Speech to UN General Assembly, September 21, 2004
The advance of liberty is the path to both a safer and better world.
George W. Bush, Speech to UN General Assembly, September 21, 2004
The desire for freedom resides in every human heart. And that desire cannot be contained forever by prison walls, or martial laws, or secret police. Over time, and across the Earth, freedom will find a way.
George W. Bush, Speech to UN General Assembly, September 21, 2004
American foreign policy must be more than the management of crisis. It must have a great and guiding goal: to turn this time of American influence into generations of democratic peace.
George W. Bush, speech, November 19, 1999
Americans are a free people, who know that freedom is the right of every person and the future of every nation. The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world; it is God's gift to humanity.
George W. Bush, State of the Union address 2003
I believe that God has planted in every human heart the desire to live in freedom. And even when that desire is crushed by tyranny for decades, it will rise again.
George W. Bush, State of the Union address, January 20, 2004

I'd qualify those remarks as overly naive and hypocritical if you consider he ran fro President in 2000 critisizing nation building

By Democracy he means a democratically elected society.

I think more to the point, why would anyone want a President who didn't believe every country should be free?

Somehow I think you don't really want answers so much as you want to critique the US and/or Bush. If that's the case, go ahead. Its a free country. Isn't that great?

And if you didn't suffer from cranial rectitus you'd know that we do not live in a pure democratic society. We have a democratic republic. Which while not perfect is better than any other type of government. It promotes capitalism.

Strong man rule- The government takes your two cows and shoots you if you object.

Communism- You have two cows. The government takes both of them from you and gives you a little milk.

Socialism- You have two cows. The government takes one of them and gives it to someone else who did nothing to get a cow. OBTW the got no compensation for the loss of your cow.

Capitalism- You have two cows. The government let's you keep them. You sell one cow and buy a bull. You start a herd. You keep the female calfs you keep and expand your herd. The male calfs you either trade for other bulls or neuter them to raise for beef which you sell. The government take a portion of your profit in taxes.

I do love a democratic republic.

Every country should be a democracy that has created its own style of democratic government, and set it up and populated it themselves. No country has the right to invade another country unless it is in self-defense and impose a handpicked government on the native population.

Being the wiretapping, eavesdropping, running our government by his signing statements, giving a pardon to convicted criminal that was covering his misdeeds, and more, maybe he should start his drive for democracy at home before he starts democratizing the world.

He just feels that it is the best form of government, rather than unelected dictators or monarchs. In an ideal world, wouldn't it follow that all nations were ruled by their people? Actually, in a truly ideal world, we'd have anarchy, but he isn't going to espouse that.

If you say every country then you have to give examples of this. I agree that he want some countries to become democratic, but some he just wants human rights, such as North Korea. A democratic society would benefit the United States economically, but it is up to the individual countries to make that choice.

Bush is naive, he does not even know he does not live in a democracy.
