So I just saw on the news that there have been 28 incidents of babies falling our of their Bumbos from countertops or tables.
One couple is actually suing the company.
I think the Bumbo chairs are great and my DD loves it.
On the back of the Bumbo there is warning to not use on raised surfaces and I know that must be there for a reason!
Of course you shouldn't use it on a raised surface...that is about as dumb as leaving your baby in the tub for 2 seconds or leaving them on the couch. I don't understand how parents can put their baby in such danger and think "they will be OK"
*shakes my head and sighs*

Many things are recalled eventually because some parents have a lack of common sense.

Baby walkers for example. Of course kids will fall down stairs or flip over a bump. Sorry to sound like a blond but DUH!

Or the Fisher Price swing that I have. Of course kids will fall out if they aren't strapped in. Again, DUH.

There are many things that are not safe for kids if not used correctly. It's like an adult using a car. If you speed it's not safe. You can get into an accident. Common sense. It bugs me when parents ruin good toys and gear because they can't figure out that you actually have to GASP watch their kids.

people are stupid. thats like putting the baby on a pillow up on a shelf and suing the company because the pillow didnt have a strap. we used bumbos here but its common sense that baby need to be supervised at all times... it has no straps!!! also its obvious that a bumbo is madeof foam-like material and its light weight.. that any kid could easily tip themselves over while sitting in one. people like that shouldnt be parents.

I was considering buying one for my son ...to put on our carpeted floor while I was nearby and watching him....and while I researched whether it was a good investment, I read some reviews or parents going out to eat and putting it on the tables at restaurants or on their own dining tables so baby could watch them eat. I thought they were recalled, but apparently they're just being investigated (sorry if I caused any confusions!). In the meanwhile, I wonder if there's a way to implant a majority of parents with a little thing called COMMON SENSE!

I had one, and my son loved it. But he would arch his back, and look like he was going to fall out of it at times (he never did) So, anytime I used it (on the floor) I'd put a blanket or pillow behind him just in case. I hope they throw the lawsuit out if someone is suing the company-I feel sorry for the baby, though.

I totally agree. I saw this piece on GMA this morning. Duh! Who would leave their child alone and on a raised surface. Even belted in a seat, kids at these young ages are so wobbly. Also, isn't that why YOU are a parent, use some common sense to protect your children. These stupid lawsuits are part of what is wrong with this country. Accept some personal responsibility for cripes sake!

Most people don't take the time to read the instructions and warnings. They just assumed based on the packaging that it was okay, without really even thinking about it. But yes, I do agree that the parents are at fault, not the chair itself.

The couple that is suing the company should be made to take a reading test. I am so sick of people wasting our tax money on lawsuits brought on by their own stupidity. They need to be sterilized so they quit breeding.

Parents should read the instructions that come with their seat. check out the Bumbo web site: www.bumbosafety.com

Yah, it does seem like a no brainer. I will admit, I left my daughter on the bed for about two seconds before I thought she could crawl, and of course she fell off the bed...(call it new mom stupidty) and I felt horrible, rushed her to the ER..etc...(She's fine...) but I would never think of suing the freaking mattress company for my own absentmindedness.

it's very sad and I hate hearing things like that. But it's simply that parents are not thinking - it's a shame because stupid forgetful moments like that can be devistating to a child's life. They really need to have manditory child classes before you are allowed to leave the hosptial with your newborn.
