You must be over 18 and cannot have been convicted of a felony. You do not have to be registered to vote; that is just one of the places they pull names from. Having a driver's license and paying property taxes will also get you on the jury list.

Most jurisdictions have a minimum age requirement of 18. Other than that, no special qualifications are required. Each attorney and possibly the judge will question you to see if you are "appropriate" for the case at hand.

Yes, you need to be too stupid to get out of jury duty.
That is the scariest part of the american legal system. A jury of my peers? How bout NOOOOO...
Your life rests in the hands of 12 people too dang dumb to get out of jury duty...and people that stupid are NOT my peers.

Being resistered to vote is not a requirement. Some people don't register in order to avoid being selected. it doesn't work that way.
