People that cross-dress are primarily heterosexual, so for the majority you would continue to treat them as you always have.
The minority that cross-dress because they feel like they should have been born as the opposite sex. If this is revealed to you as well, than you may ask them how they would like to be treated.

Asking respectful and sincere questions of your friend is probably the quickest and truest method of getting the answers you are looking for. They believed in you enough to tell you their secret, and it's not uncommon for people to question what they don't understand. In fact, it may strengthen the friendship because you'll understand your friend better than you did before, as well as prove that they can trust you to be open and understanding about anything they bring to you.

I'll be honest. I'd think you were weird.

...Just like if you had the urge to dress like a Smurf.

It's not "intolerant" to notice things & react to things that aren't normal.

(For those that will try to use the "well that depends how you define normal" argument, I would have to remind you that the definition of "normal" is:

": according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, or principle b: conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern")

...so it is a deviation from what society sees as "normal."

It doesn't mean it's right. It doesn't mean it's wrong.

...But it's definitely not normal.

I wouldn't stop hanging out with you, but I'd always wonder why you did that.

As an FTM- female to male transsexual- I know how it feels to try and present as one thing and have people treat you as the other once they realize your past. Thus, I would treat you however you wished to be treated, male or female.

Depends. Most cross dressers don't usually want to be the other gender, they just like dressing that way.

I would ask what you wanted.
