In addition to it's still formidable nuclear arsenal and it's recent actions toward it's ex-Soviet satellite countries? Will the EU's dependence on it's oil be it's downfall? Also, Putin's maneuvering to stay in power indefinitely? I would like to hear comments from ex-soviet countries as well!

Hi, I'm from small country in Europe, Macedonia, county that is a friend of USA on the Balcans. I really don't think that you should fear Russia.

Three things come to mind concerning this topic.

#1 Putin Dissolved the Russian Government
#2 Russia Drops a flag in a capsule to the North Pole's seabed.
#3 Russia successfully Tests the father of all bombs (3x more powerful the the U.S. Mother of all bombs while remaining non-nuclear.)

These three points should say a lot. Putin is working towards making himself an indefinite ruler. While doing so, the Russian claim to the north pole oil reserves will generate enough income to finance a large scale production of "Father of all Bombs" once again catapulting Russia into a world Leader/Threat, taking their seat as a voice to be hear.

Russia needs to be watched very closely. Putin is becoming more and more like Stalin every week. He is firing his opponets in the government, beefing up the military and having the military parades again like Stalin did to show the world Russia's strength. He is siding with countries that are against the US again.
He is a world leader than should not be ignored, but watched closely.

i'm not sure fear is right reaction .. but we definatly have got to keep up respect in the relationship. sometimes you both have to build your aresenals to keep the respect ?

Putin , is a business man , not interested in a war. He's interested in profit through business / corruption whatever is needed to make the numbers.

Not too much different from other leaders of country. Power / Greed / Corruption seem to be inevitable ?
