Attempting to get peace here:
1. Your question makes you sound like an angry person that isn't too fond of Americans. So you probably are getting back that same attitude.
2. Your phrase, "Americans I own" is very divisive. You don't own people. Saying so, and indicating it is Americans you own, comes across as a "put down," or as being critical, and again, many people will respond to you in the same fashion.
3. Your question wreaks of Vanity. An Englishman, "owner of many US based companies.." and claiming to own Americans...telling us your employees look to you as a "great leader" and pointing out it is especially the American employees that see you as great....WOW, vanity vanity vanity. That upsets people, not out of jealously, but out of disdain for your vanity.
4. You apparently have self esteem issues, since you feel the need to qualify yourself so highly to make a point.
5. Overall, the tone of your question (message) is confrontational. Hence, people reply in kind. If you go looking for a fight, you'll find one. Try looking for peace.
Most Americans do not hate the British. Most Americans are pretty normal folk, just like you, moving through life.
Peace starts with each of us. Best regards.

For one thing, you own nobody. You might be an employer, and are purchasing the services of our labor force, but you do not own them.
Now that has been straightened out, I have never been mean to you, nor will I.
If you feel some here are unduly mean, let me drop you a hint. Stop talking like you are better somehow, than anyone else is. That would be a great place to start.
We Americans do not like to think we are owned. I know if you said to me "I own you" I would not tolerate that!
EDIT: You can log on using as many ID's as you wish to give out all the thumbs down, you do not have me fooled for even a millisecond. Any self respecting businessperson would not be as boastful, nor would they say they own people. Give it your best shot, I have owned a couple of companies myself, but NEVER treated folks like I own them. If folks WITH you, they will do a much better job than when they work FOR you.

Perhaps you are asking questions which get them on the raw. If you bite you must expect to get bitten back.
Sometimes I feel that too match British arrogance some Americans often have a form of inferiority complex and so have to prove that hey are not inferior and so get nasty. i make the point before someone starts. They are not inferior but some feel that they are being put down and then the complex rears it's head

could be sidders,could be
yer know that all these colonials are just the riff-raff from the civilised world, the flotsam and jetsam that nobody wanted and transported across the sea
and you've demonstrated time and again how great and noble a chap you are
good huts, electricity, running water, soup and stale rolls, bit too good for 'em really.
now you take my advice here
each time you add to your business portfolio-you have a good hard look at the Americans you are buying, to many damn trouble makers in these colonials
cast off those who are suspect, if they don't tug their fetlock hard enough to make their scalps bleed discard them
Burmese we owned were biddable, and dammed grateful of it too
put a few of your more trusted walla's in place to show a good example
if your damn lucky, you might even find one clever enough to make a decent pink gin
now wheres that boy got to
BOY

First off, you don't own anybody. Second without specifics I can only guess why people have - as you contend - been nasty. Most likely it's Capitalist proclivities if you're among the ilk who place profits above the best interests of your employees and people generally.

Sorry, any Americans you "own" are not Americans. I for one would not be jealous of anyone who allowed themselves to be owned. Slavery was abolished.

Is this a serious question? Are you really who you say you are?
I ask because of your phrase, "the Americans who I own".
Are you a slave owner? Slavery was abolished in America or didn't you get the memo?
