Incredibly hard question. I'm going to say my favorite is Ghost World, which I just saw last nite. Since there isn't really much of a plot it's the characters that make it so great. And you can see how they grow emotionally throughout the movie. Steve Buscemi is one of my favorite actors (as well as Scarlett J. and Thora B.)
Other favorites: Fargo (more Steve Buscemi), After Hours, the original Psycho, Silence of the Lambs, Happiness (Phillip Seymor Hoffman's another favorite), Welcome to the Dollhouse, Breakfast at Tiffanys, Lost in Translation, The Usual Suspects, Sideways, Brokeback Mountain, Good Will Hunting, and many more. I basically like quirky movies that other people don't always get. The quirkiest among these are Welcome to the Dollhouse, Happiness, and After Hours.
And, of course, I love all the Harry Potter movies!

Lord of the Rings trilogy is the best made movie of our time. All three movies were made at the same time, the effects were phenomenal, the acting was great, the story and the drama followed the book as best as can be done. The music was also great. It should be proven from the fact that the third movie won 11 oscars.
The best movie that I saw before that was made was Gone with the Wind for all the same reasons, including the oscars.

Fight Club (great actors, sweet-*** ending)
Almost Famous (great soundtrack and just a good movie all together)
Grandma's Boy (hilarious with some of the best one-liners ever)

Purple Rain is the best ever!
As far as effects, characters, plot...lately "The Last Mimzy" was good for me. "Dark Water" also had a great plot and 5.1 surround audio mix.
Transformers in HD DVD is my current favorite!!!
Oh hell yeah, the Bourne series is Sawwweeeet!

"Scent Of A Woman" with Al Pacino and Chris O'Donnell. Inspirational, loving, overcoming, and very powerfully stated but not overwhelming.
