So I'm curious. Do you believe that women are judged more harshly than men for crying in public? I would have thought it to be the exact opposite. What's your opinion & why?

The context determines the judgment on crying. I don't think it's gender-related so much.

If somebody loses a family member, men and women can cry without judgment.

If somebody loses a ball game and cries, then uh-oh, better get Maaco.

Again, it's the context. People make a judgment of whether an event is worthy enough for crying over.

I always would believe the opposite but then again it seems like women in the public eye are always judged more harshly.

I would have believed it was the opposite too. Crying is one of the most powerful things a woman can do, most men are powerless against it.

I think women are already seen as over-reactive and over emotional.... and let's face it, some of them are exactly that.

It's those women who cry over literally everything that give those of us relatively normal women a bad name.

There are alot of women that will cry to get attention or cry to get what they want from others.

Yes i agree. Women are judged harsher. As in when they are crying they are viewed as a weak winy female. I think it is wrong to judge any one.

women are judged more harshly becuase there are a lot of sexists out there looking for any reason to point and say 'see women are too emotional to hold office' or some other bs like that

I agree with the study. When men cry, people call them sensitive. When women cry they are considered weak. Typical even.
