The Wild Animal Park is connected with the San Diego Zoo, and 600 acres were affected. The worst thing they said that happened was that the decorations for the upcoming holiday were affected but none of the animals were hurt There are endangered species that are in the park, so there was definitely a lot of concern.

The blog I posted below discusses the efforts the park staff (some of the SD Zoo staff went to assist) went in keeping some of the animals safe.

The San Diego Zoo was not affected. Like others are saying, the Wild Animal Park was in the fire's path, so it got evacuated, along with the Fallbrook Zoo.

To whoever said that pretty much it's the Northern part of the county that is/was threatened is WRONG! ALL of SD county was affected at some point...The East county, South Bay, etc... The Harris fire is STILL burning and headed towards Alpine/Campo and that whole area up there. Just yesterday Lakeside was evacuated!

I live less than one mile from the San Diego Zoo and it was not affected except for the air quality with all the smoke, which is much better today.

The San Diego Wild Animal Park was directly in the fire, and the animals were evacuated, or protected in their enclosures until it was safe.

San Diego also has a large number of horses in the county and people were able to evacuate them to safe places, along with pets and other livestock. I am sure there were animals, including many wild animals, that were killed by the fire, but a very high number of animals were saved.

San Diego zoo ordered closed, Wild Animal park in immediate danger.

CNN is reporting the San Diego County fires have moved south into the city of San Diego through the San Pasqual Valley, heading toward the Wild Animal Park.

CNN reports that the Wild Animal Park, nearby to the world-famous zoo - is in the immediate threat to the fires.

The animal park evacuated its staff to the San Diego Zoo, and the most at-risk and endangered animals were moved to a fire-resistant hospital on the park property, including California condors, several bird species, some snakes and some smaller mammals. Larger animals were left in their open areas for now, according to CNN.

"There are lots of ponds for the animals to retreat to," said a Wild Animal Park spokesman.

The news only mentioned the Wild Animal Park in San Diego which is a different location than the larger park in Balboa. They did close the Wild Animal Park and removed most animals to safety.

Nope. The Wild Animal Park was threatened, but I remember the news saying that the animals were evacuated. It's pretty much the northern part of the county that's threatened.

No thank god, I know it would be awful as the animals would have nowhere to escape to. I hope the fire doesn't affect them in the future.
