As a president of a roofing company, if my husband was disabled, how would his worker's comp and disability be determined? Is it bases solely on wages?

Does your husband draw a real paycheck, one where social security & fed/state withholding is paid? If yes, then he qualifies for Social Security Disability if injured. The big problem is you have to be off work for more than 6 months to collect and as a owner if he continues to do ANY work, including office/billing type he might not be considered disabled by the feds.

Workers comp is covered under the Workers Comp Insurance policy and as an owner it is even more difficult to collect. He should call his insurance carrier/agent and ask them what is and what is not, covered.

If I were in his shoes, and were able to afford it, he should find a private disability insurance company.

Even cheaper may be to save a minimum of 6 months cash that would pay your household expenses/food/medical if something happened.

Owners of businesses get screwed when it comes to any payouts for disability or unemployment. We pay 100% of the cost of coverage, but are not entitled to many of the benefits.

Disability pay would only exist if he has some sort of disability policy of his own, or if he qualified for social security disability. PA doesn't have state disability payments or coverage.

I'm assuming he is self-employed, since you say he's the president of a roofing company. Check with the PA workers comp bureau - he might not be covered for workers comp since he's not an employee.

No I don't think its determined solely on wages. Its determined how bad he was hurt and what kind of injury he has.
