Im getting ready to buy a Montblanc and do a good bit of writing. I'm having a hard time deciding whether to get their new fineliner/felt tip which has a nice neat and crisp marker feel and it also takes the regular rollerball refills or should I go with the traditonal fountain pen which is what most writers use it seems? Why do writers generally prefer fountain pens over the other choices? The fineliner and fountain both feel smooth in my hand but the fineliner has a darker heavier inktone to it and the fountain also costs a couple hundred dollars more. Is the fountain worth it in the long run If I'm trying to become a published writer one day? I'm considering the Boheme platinum Doue as a FL/RB or as a fountain pen or maybe the new Cool Blue Starwalker in the RB/ Fineliner version. Thanks for your input!

Im not in the Montblanc price range either but my work sells them so I get them at a greatly reduced value and I just figured I couldnt pass through w/o getting one for myself. Otherwise MontBlanc would never be considered due to pricing.

fineliner ink tends to bleed if you get it wet.
fountain pen doesn't glide over the paper and ink will also bleed.
A good quality roller will glide over the paper and the ink won't bleed.

My choice, however, is the fountain pen. I like the way the nib makes scratching sounds as it moves over the paper.

well it is said that ur handwriting is much better when u use the traditional fountain pen..cuz when u place the heavy cap on the back and write ur pen is pulled backwards a bit and this creates a special look..but for most of the people they find that they can write much better with fountain pens....cuz its just what they are used to and are comfortable with...and fountain pens do have theyre own style...

but buying a pen should be ur own decision...u should by something that feels good in your hands....

Are you looking for a writing instrument that will help you write more attractively? Or more creatively?

Sounds like you think the writing instrument you use will make you a better writer. Duh?

If you are a good writer, you could use chalk on the wall of your room to create a best-selling novel. Spending hundreds of dollars on an ink-pen may make you feel like a writer, but creativity comes from the mind, not the pen.

Good luck. And if you find that a Montblanc pen enables you to write a best-seller, be sure to let us know. I've been using a 59-cent Bic. Which MUST BE why I haven't sold my latest novel.

I'm not of the Montblanc income range, but I'm a writer with decades of experiment. Assuming Montblanc carries an extra-fine rollerball tip, that's my advice. Try it. I find Pilot Precise V5 "my" indispensable pen, for its speed, complete absence of drag and almost instant drying. Since it's liquid, ballpoints must be substituted on glossy finishes, else smudging. The Precise V7 is their fine tip, not fast enough for me, and too much drag for speed. I find medium roller balls slow, fountain pens messy and unnecessary, and I've never tried a fineliner.

a good mount blanc fountain pen is very smooth ....the actual pen point responds differently from felt or ball points with angle and pressure the line width will vary and the result is very attractive especially if the writer has a nice hand ..... they are really nice for an attractive signature ... the style or color has no effect only in the owners mind .... i favor black with gold trim ....

Try them out, and use what's comfortable to you. Nobody ever became a great writer based on the pen style they used. They got to that achievement because they were bloody brilliant.
