A lot of people have asked on here if there baby would be OK if they continued to smoke while pregnant. Well, I am wondering if babies were born OK after smoking.

i am not proud of it,but i did smoke while i was pregnant.i only smoked about 5 a day.
i am glad to say that both of my daughters are fine and healthy.one is 9 and the other is 7.as of yet neither has any problems.
i guess i was lucky.i can't tell anyone not to smoke while they are pregnant because that would make me a hypocrite, but i would not recommend it.

I really think it depends on the situation. I know a mother who drank throughout her first trimester and then smoked throughout her pregnancy. It really appalled me because I was doing the best I could for my son by eating healthy. I also don't drink or smoke. Imagine my surprise when her son was born healthy, although a full pound smaller than my son (my son was 7.5 lbs). Of course, her son is only a few months old and you can't tell what will happen in the long run. Babies who are exposed to second hand smoke have a higher risk for SIDS and respiratory problems, not to mention the fact that they might grow up to become smokers themselves.

I know two people who did this.
One has a perfectly healthy big baby girl. She was born 9 pounds.

The second... well... her daughter has an aweful lot of problems. But, I can't actually say they were totally related to her smoking. The mother was 13 years old, smoked a pack a day, and went through incredible stress during her pregnancy (she saw her mother get shot in the head and die infront of her during a home invasion when she was around 6 months pregnant). Her daughter has to be stuck to tubes all day and is 4 years old now and still cannot walk and is mentally still a little baby. But, like I said - I can't say that her condition has anything to do with smoking.

My grandmother smoked with all of her 4 pregnancies and all kids were fine, no health problems and no mental problems in fact all kids are now in their 50's. My mother smoked with me and Im 32 with no problems at all. No asthma nothing just perfectly healthy. I smoked with both of my kids. I have one that is 9 years old and one that is 6 weeks old and no problems with any of them except my 6 week old was a little big (almost 9 lbs) and got stuck so I had to have a c-section, but that had nothing to do with smoking.

People like to say babies are all fine if you smoke but its like Russian rullet. You have a gun and you can shoot yourself in your head and you may be fine. Does that mean the next one who does will be to? No the next guy might blow his brains out. Now you may think I'm being judgmental but when I got pregnant I has some addictions. One of which was smoking. I quit right away. I suffered through the first part of my pregnancy terribly but I did it for my baby. She's a healthy, happy 5 month old now and I'm a happy healthy women who still doesn't smoke. And I had TONS of stress during my pregnancy. Including, but not limited to, accidental being pregnant with a man I just started dating, leaving work prematurely d/t illness during the pregnancy, having to sell my house, totaling my car in a accident, moving to a new town, having my opa die and then having my uncle die at his funeral. Anyways I'm not saying it was easy. It sucked. But my daughters better for it. Also SIDS is linked to maternal smoking during pregnancy. I'm pretty sure if you asked a mother who lost her baby to SIDS who smoked if she'd still make the same choices I'm pretty sure she would say no. Anyways I wish you the best of luck. Hopefully you can kick the habit but if not try to cut down and find support. Best wishes to you and your baby.

My mom smoked while she was pregnant with me... I don't have any disorders related to smoking. I do have a high level of anxiety but I don't know if that would be related?

Personally, I won't/don't smoke when I get pregnant just to be on the safe side... but I think I turned out fine! ;-)

Good Question I would like the know the answer to that to that one. I know my boss smokes and she is 6 mos pregnant. I kind of lost some respect for her when I found that she smokes while being pregnant. You have to figure in the long run it will affect the baby in the long run, such as astmha and other breathing problems because it affects the lungs.

I smoked almost a pack a day until I found out I was pregnant then I tried to quit and couldn't so I cut down to 2 cigs a day. My son was 9lbs 14 oz at birth. He beautiful, bright, healthy and happy. I know a woman who smoked a pack a day her whole pregnancy and her daughter weighs less at six months than my son did at birth.

I smoke about 2-3 cigarettes a day when i was pregnant with my daughter. She was born 6 weeks early weighing 6lb 3oz and was perfectly healthy and has had no problems other than being lactose intolerant, she was not at a low birth weight she was perfect. I am only 5ft and i weighed 120 when giving birth to her, weighing 100lb when i got pregnant so i could understand why she was small.

My mother smokes with me and my other 3 siblings, i ended up being 3 months premature, weighing 2lbs with pneumonia unlikely to live but made it and now have ADHD. I suffer from sever anxiety attacks which is not related to my mother's smoking with me, in fact panick attacks run in my fathers whole side of the family. My other brothers and sisters came out perfectly fine.

I don't smoke, but my mom did with all 4 of us. Even though she cut back we all have ADD, and one of my sisters has severe asthma abd even today at age 43 she still has attacks that send her to the ER. It affected how we did in school, and on the job. Working is a struggle when you cannot concentrate. It's not worth the risk to the baby's health or to their future to smoke while pregnant or to expose them to it afterwards.
