I was a smoker before I became pregnant. I quit the minute I saw the the two pink lines. It was the easiest thing in world to do. My husband's grandmother smoked with all four of her children and all four of her children were born premature and under weight. My husband's mother was four pounds when she was born and had to stay in the hospital for weeks. They are all alive and well today (except for his grandmother, she developed emphysema and died) but their entry into this world was a tough one. Remember, smoke crosses the placenta. Just think of your little baby growing in a cloud of smoke. I was a smoker, I am not judging anyone, I just do not see how someone could do that to their little baby.

I do not have any children but been around enough pregnant women to know this much: Most doctors will tell pregnant women now that if they were smoking when they got pregnant then they need to continue but to definitely cut down to like a few a day because when you quit smoking it puts your body in shock therefore would put your baby into shock as well. But as for afterward every baby I have came across where the mother smoke through the whole pregnancy they babies came out healthy maybe instead of having a 7-8lb baby they would be 6lb but other than that healthy in every way.

My mom smoked while she was pregnant with me. I am healthy and have no medical problems at all. I am 22 and have a 2 year old and 33 weeks pregnant.
Though it varies from women to women. Like someone who drinks the whole nine months can give birth to a healthy strong baby but someone who had a glass of wine could easily give birth to a baby that has F.A.S. There is no way of knowing if it will effect your baby or not. That is why doctors advise against it.

I personally didn't smoke, but a friend of mine did for all 9 months and quit the day she went into the hospital to have her daughter! She wasn't a heavy smoker... I used to get on her about it, because I quit cold turkey after being a heavy smoker. Anyway, her daughter is now 14 months and healthy, but small. I think her size has more to do with genetics, as she was 7+lbs when born. There is always a risk, so try to quit if you can.

My mom smoked the entire time she was pregnant w/ my brother. He was the first born in the family and she didn't do that w/ either me or my sister. But from what I know of him now he is normal and completely healthy. He is actually the only one in my family who DOESN'T smoke, lol. But I don't know if this makes a difference: he is gay. I personally have my own set of beliefs on the issue but I figured that may be an important piece of info, who knows??

No, it is not a good thing to smoke during pregnancy. I slowed down but did continue to smoke during my first pregnancy. My baby was born 1 month early, weighed 5 lbs, which they told me there is a chance the baby would be small due to smoking and my child has asthma because of me smoking. Needless to say I quit for my second pregnancy.

Look at it this way, you are putting nicotine into your body by smoking. You are putting nicotine into your baby's underdeveloped body by smoking. Any drugs taken while pregnant can do serious harm to your baby. Don't do any drugs while pregnant. I am sure there have been babies born that seem normal but they could develop issues later in life too. Why damage your child just to get a quick fix?

I dont know why anyone would ever even consider risking birth defects on their own precious child, just to light up and inhale cancer causing smoke. Being pregnant is the BEST exuse to quit. Not only for your baby, but for yourself. Because that child is going to want you around for a while too.
It is a difficult task, but a good mother would not put her babies health at risk EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SOME BABIES ARE NOT BORN OK TO A MOTHER WHO SMOKED! THAT IS A FACT!
