My fiance and I have been putting pocket change (money) into a BIG jar for about a year now. It is FULL and we have started another jar.

We have been wanting to take a vacation for the past two years, and when we started the jar we decided that the money in it would go towards spending money on a trip. Well, we recently booked a 10 day trip to disney world. We will be going in May 2008. The trip was less than 3,000 dollars (it includes a 10 day stay at a disney resort hotel, 8 day park hopper passes + the water park option, and airline tickets both ways for the two of us)

We did not use our 'piggy bank change' to pay for the trip, but we will be using it for our spending money when we go to disney!

We've tried roling it but find that we are constantly emptying the rolled change becuase we think we may have miscounted.

My fiance will not bring it to one of those 'change stars' that they have at the grocery store b/c they take a % of your total

Will the bank take change?

The bank won't count it out but once rolled you can take it there - to answer your header question.

The bank will take the change - to answer your last question.

For rolling, start with setting aside by counts of 10 (am assuming it's pennies that makes you think you miscounted). It usually works for me.

Have fun on your vacation!!

I don't have a "piggy bank", but I do use a gallon plastic jar that chips came in to put all my change in. I rarely spend change. I save it until the jar is full and then spend a few hours of rolling the money myself and then I will figure out what I want unless I already have something in mind that I am wanting. I have been known to have to count it out some and roll it to pay a bill that I don't have the money for or to buy a tank of gas. But I try to leave it in there until the jar gets full. But with things getting as tough as they are, may not even be able to save it that way much longer.

They will if you use the coin wrappers like you have been doing. If it's a lot of work because of the amount of coins that you have, you could always have a couple of people help you with rolling the money before you take it to the bank.

Have a good time. :)

yes, banks have to take your change, they may not be happy about it, but its their job, especially when you have an account with them.. my bank has a coin counter machine in the lobby, it doesnt cost anything or take a percentage like the ones at the supermarkets.. and they do sell coin counters that roll your coins in the stores too.. not very expensive, I used to have one when I was a teenager..

besides, I'd be curious on how much $$$ you and your fiance have collected, arent you?? you dont realize how much you have until its counted..

enjoy Disney..

Most banks have a form of those change star machines that is free if your a customer from the bank. I use it every couple of months and usually get about twenty of thirty dollars each time. (I take out my quarters for laundry)

Have fun on you vacation

Piggy Bank Counter

Bring your full change jars to the bank. They will accept the money, run the coins thru their automatic counter, and give you the cash in paper money in a matter of minutes.

I save money in a jar, and have turned it in and gotten paper money several times.
