I guess the dark makes it worse because you can't see exactly what's there.

The #1 fear is FEAR of the UNKNOWN. What you do not know you are usually most afraid of. Since it is harder to get your bearings and see at night, it is more easily a time to be afraid of the unknown... what lurks around the corner or behind the tree. If that same person took a flood light and put it into the same place of that fear, the fear would deminish since now they could see what they originally could not. A flood light gives off daylight lighting. Also, people are more afraid when they encounter something alone than when they are in pairs or a group so if that person went to that same area with a group of friends, they would not have any fear either.

HELLO!
It's true that the same thing can happen to them in the day time that happens at night (One of my stronger opinions!), but it seems that people are cowards. They take more chances in the dark than they do during light hours, hoping to escape easier and slip into darkness, so they won't get caught. I never heard of anyone slipping into the light. When someone bothers you in a dark alley, it's because it's dark and they don't want to get caught. They use darkness as their get-away.

Because statistically more crimes do happen during the night, especially between 1-4am. Also, beyond that is the fact that culturally we have been conditioned to fear the evils of the night, when you watch horror movies- they take place at night, all tales of ghosts etc are surronded by visualizations of the night.

I know sometimes it scares me because I cant see as good or as far as in the day. Also for some strange reason I tend to think about the craziest things happening to me while I'm walking. I really and truly scare myself!! Ha Ha Ha......

A lot of people fear the unknown. Since in the dark you can't see what is or is not there your imagination tends to runaway. Like kids who are afraid of the dark because of the boggie man.
