It's pretty much impossible to tell for sure at that stage. I was 18 weeks when I went for mine and the guy still wasn't too sure what I was having. You could take a guess but I would reccommend waiting and doing another ultrasound later on to be sure.

Males become externally distinct between 8 and 12 weeks, as androgens enlarge the phallus and cause the urogenital groove and sinus to fuse in the midline, producing an unambiguous penis with a phallic urethra, and a thinned, rugated scrotum.
However, I would trust the sonographer's eye...and if they didn't offer you their opinion on the baby's gender, it may be because it is just too early to make that observation. Sonograms can be tricky to read, and an untrained eye shouldn't be relied upon.
Check out this site for more informaiton on gender identification on ultrasounds...it has some great stuff on there.

Good luck and congrats!

In most cases, no. 13 weeks is too early. Both genders have "nubs" at 13 weeks. The boys nub becomes a penis, while the girls nub becomes a clitoris. There are some techs who are trained at being able to tell the gender by the way the nub is angled, but they are a rare find.

It's too soon, with your friend, it was just a happenstance that she thought she saw a penis and she had a boy.
But until you are farther along and can really tell, there are lots of games to play to try to guess the sex, such as the chinese gender chart.

The genitals arent even formed until 13 weeks, and they continue to develop for many weeks after. At 13 weeks theres really no difference between male and female, they look remarkably identical.

No, 16 weeks is the earliest. They parts look the same at 12 weeks. It could develop into the penis, or clitoris.

most place won't tell you until 18-20 weeks I think. It all looks the same until then.
Just hand in there, you've waited this long, the time will fly by

it is really hard to tell for sure until you are at about twenty eight weeks because with my daughter I had an ultrasound at fifteen weeks and the ob said it looked like a boy but when i had another one at about thirty weeks it was a girl so don't get to excited on a boy but you never really know huh just be patient and see and congratulations
