This fence will bisect the San Pedro river, a river that is already threatened and is dry in many sections during summer. This was the second time this year that Chertoff used his authority to waive laws requiring an adequate environmental impact study prior to construction, claiming that further delays threatened national security.

I thought the main threat was from Islamic extremists, not Mexican immigrants. But maybe I missed something? The principle of waiving U.S. law for largely partisan political reasons is rampant with this lame-duck administration.

Um - considered there are millions of illegal immigrants from Mexico it is pretty important to build a fence since obviously they have no respect for the law.
If Mexicans can cross that border what's to stop anybody from going to Mexico and entering the US from an unprotected border.
I chain my dog because he doesn't have sense enough to stay in his own yard- you'd really expect more from people.

I live in the country and see alot of fences- miles and miles of them as a matter of fact.
I haven't noticed much damage to the eco-system- I notice far more damage due to man littering.

I would like to think that the security of this nation is important enough that people can quit creating roadblocks for a secure border.

The problem is, as I see it, Islamic Extremist coming across our Unsecured Borders. The Patriot Act was enacted, illegally, to monitor for Terroristic activity... but what about who comes over the border in the middle of the night... then leaves just as quietly. Unless this is known by our President, then I would forget impeachment and wonder about Treason, something needs to be done so Secure America.

You didnt miss anything, you just have the Terrorist in the wrong place, at the wrong time...and that's ok. I doubt most consider who might be coming across...I almost wonder if anyone cares anymore....

The small environmental sacrifice that this requires is more than worth it in terms of economic and security benefits. Ironically, many Mexicans will participate in it's construction. This is unquestionably the way to go.

Have you seen the trash left by the illegals who come over and dump their crap all in the desert and other areas, if anything it would probably help environmentally on our side of the fence.

how do you think the islamic terrorists are getting into this country? You think they just walk off the plane, and hand over their passport? Here's my passport...check my background.
No. Most are sneaking over the border from Canada and Mexico.
