the reason i ask is because the last time i saw my Dr he said my son was small for me being almost 6 month and mind you i,m a small women 4'7 and his dad is 6'4 but i,m tiny so you would think my son is not going to be a big baby i mean normal weight when born but i,m tiny so anyway,he also said it had one artery and vein in the umbilical cord so i said Ok and then he said later i would be put on bed-rest but i don't understand why he would not say when i asked. and he also has done a chromisone abnormalites test and has had it in his office for 2 days and i have try-ed to call him and ask what the results are but he has failed to call me back and i was told to stop calling so i,m not going to call anymore i try-ed to change and no one will except me because he is the only high risk Dr in my area .so my question is what exactaly is a chrmoisone test done for and also why where you put on bed rest thanks for responding and sorry for ranting and by the way i,m know 6 months and 4 days

I'm guessing your doc wants to put you on bed rest because of only having the one artery and one vein in the umbilical cord. There is supposed to be three and I'll bet the doc is worried that it could compromise the health of the baby. I was put on bed rest at 21 weeks after I had a placenta abrubtion. It is hard to be on bed rest, very frusterating but do it for the well being of your baby. If you are uncomfortable with your doctor I would keep trying to find a doctor that will accept you as a patient. You need to be comfortable with the care you receive. Either way I would really push to find out the answers to your questions regarding your situation. You have a right to know and your doctor has an obligation to fully inform you.

I am sorry to hear you are frustrated. this is my second pregnancy and I have been placed on bed rest both times due to pre-eclampsia (BP condition). I know it's frustrating when the dr.'s don't call back right away, but no news is usually good news. They would call you right away if there was something seriously wrong. As for the size of your baby. Just because you are small doesn't necessarily mean anything when it comes to your baby. I am thinking your dr. is just taking every necessary precaution which is a good thing. You want a healthy baby, and I am sure your dr. will do everything to ensure that. Take care, and good luck.

A few things:
1) Doctors often take longer than you want returning test results. I have dealt with that repeatedly in the last 2 years. try to adjust to it and not let it drive up your blood pressure.

2) The smallness of your son obviously concerns the doctor. Your size is another issue. Smallness in and of itself can be concerning in an infant. One wonders about the development of all systems, and if everything is going as it should.

3) The chromosome test is just another check to make sure all systems are go with your tiny son. Take it in stride. Don't stress.

4) You sound high-strung. Such people wear out energy and get run down from worry and mental over-activity. Calm. Stress less. I like the idea that he referred you to bed rest instead of handing you a bottle of pills. You should too. Sounds like a good doctor.

I was 12 weeks when I began bleeding and haing small contractions, it was discovered that I had a condition called Placenta Previa and needed to go on bed rest.. till I delivered. I was on bed rest for like 7 months.. I was miserable and hated it, I read a lot, cried a lot. But I managed to make it. Good Luck..
