People want him to keep coming back and everything but he walked out on us several times. He thought that he should get his way even when he could not go in the ring. He walked out after Wrestlemania when he wrestled Scott Hall because it wasn't a high up on the card match. The Rock even told him to get the F out so why does everyone want him to come back time and time again. I know he was a huge star and probably the 2nd biggest draw in the company next to the Rock, and I do like the guy but enough is enough I think. And he was suppose to wrestle Brock on Raw one night but decided to take his ball and go home again cause it wasn't an advertised match. Or with the JR and Coach storyline, he told Vince he wasn't coming since they wanted to put Coach over (with alot of help of course so they could continue that storyline). In 1999 and early 2000 he refused to work with people like Jeff Jarrett, Benoit, Angle, and Billy Gunn cause he said they were not in his league....

He later worked some of them though. And to top it all off, he was a wife beater because he beat Debra when they were married. So why Austin why?

i always thought stone cold was all talk and a stunner. he has a huge ego and no one ever brings that up. if him hbk and hogan were all in the same room there would be no room for anyone else with there egos. also he beat his wife ive seen people complain about macho man for beating his ex wife but no one ever mentions austin being a prick for beating debra. no one ever mentions how when he was in wwe his wrestling moves are comparable to cenas now. all he ever did in wwe was kick punch stomp in the corner the lou thesz press and the stunner. the only reason i would ever want to see him come back is to see him get his butt kicked.

also the guy wastes alot of beer. which in my book should be a class A felony.

i think people only like him cuz we all wish we could do to our bosses what he does to his boss.

You do have a point, however...

The reason why people like him so much is because he is the biggest anti-hero to ever exist in mainstream wrestling. Everyone recognizes Stone Cold Steve Austin, and unlike Hogan, he paid his dues and lost a TON of matches. Even his rivalry against Bret Hart was full of losses, and that rivalry got him the most over of any.

Austin was still the biggest star when he was in the storyline with Brock Lesnar, but that match is supposed to be BIG. His match against Scott Hall was not big because he was wreslting Scott Hall (who is liked, but not that great of a draw), and Hogan's match was bigger than that. Let's be serious here:
Jeff Jarrett: mid-carder in WWF/E, and he's overrated
Billy Gunn: low-mid carder in WWF/E and a Tag Team wrester, also overrated; a rivalry with him would've done nothing for Stone Cold
Kurt Angle: mid-carder at the time, and the two eventually had a long storyline against each other
Benoit: mid-carder at the time, and it wasn't certain he would become a WWF/E champion AT ALL. As much as I liked the guy, Vince was not going to intially push him to be a champion., so Stone Cold wouldn't benefit from that, being the biggest star in the WWE still.

Because he symbolizes what was probably the most entertaining story line ever in the history of wrestling the Austin vs McMahon saga, which single handedly saved the WWE from going under during the Monday Night Wars. Mostly due to the hylarious displays by Vince it was the single best storyline ever, saved the company, led to numerous memorable scenes (the bed pan incident in the hospital was priceless) and spun off pushes that created The Rock, Mankind and HHH into stars. People want him back in part because they want that quality of programing back, which may never happen again until someone steps up and offers Vince real competition (sorry TNA).

I think people's opinion of Austin mostly relies on what they see on screen. It's the same with Hogan, those who love the Hulkster love him for the uber face he portrays on television, not the money-grubbing old timer who still insists on not putting over the future headliners like Randy Orton. I think people can be a Steve Austin fan and not be a Steven Williams fan, I also think people can be a Hulk Hogan fan and still not condone Terry Bolea's methods of holding out for money, sitting on injuries, and squashing the present day main eventers who would benefit greatly from a win over one of the most legendary icons in the business.

I think the real question is do these men have a right to act this way? If you were one of the two biggest draws that Vince McMahon ever signed, would you think you deserved better? On one hand, I have to agree with Austin, in 1999/2000 Jeff Jarrett, Billy Gunn, Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle weren't in his tier of stardom. I'll admit all of the above became something (except for Billy Gunn, whom WWE tried on multiple occasions in vain to put him over) but in 1999 Billy Gunn was "other guy" from DX soon to come into a homsexual tag storyline, Chris Benoit was in that little group the Radicalz that everyone kept NOT talking about, and most people unfamiliar with Olympic wrestling had no idea who Kurt Angle was, he was on the Heat card feuding with Tiger Ali Singh. Now, considering Austin's meteoric rise during this time, do you think he had the right to not wrestle these men? During that time, I'd say yeah, he was a main event draw at the helm of the company, why should he have to wrestle some nobodies? I have to call BS on Jarrett, in late 99-2000 he was in WCW.

Also, we can thank Steve for not continuing through with that storyline between Coach and JR, because the end result would've been Jim Ross's firing from commentary, something WWE has tried to do on several occasions for no good reason.

I don't care what Steve Williams does in his off time, his personal demons are none of my concern (plus, anyone who saw Debra Williams on the news during the Benoit scandal may agree with me, she deserves a few good wraps in the mouth by somebody [although I do not condone spousal abuse, but seriously, shut that **** up]) and his qualms with Vince McMahon and the WWE are his own, and not mine. I'm more interested with the guy who saved WWE from corperate destruction, the man who got people talking about wrestling again, and the man who is responsible for the best commentator in the business still having a job in the WWE's flagship today.

I'm a Stone Cold Steve Austin fan, not a Steven Williams fan, and I can distinguish between a character and a real man.

i think everyone doesn't remember what you said thank you for bringing up the good points.
oh yeah you forgot to through in there he made a horable movie.
why i think the fans want stone cold back is because they remember the beer drinking sob. They remember all the funny stuff he did to vince. The fans don't remember the bad side of stone cold.

Jerrett. Angle, CHRIS BENOIT, not in his leage. Oh is that leage smashing beer cans and making catchphases, those guys have true talent, Benoit could make him tap any day. He is just mad that people are foprgetting about him. I really dont like him, or his history with women beating and DUIs.
