Enviromentalists have fought brush clearing and other infrastructure improvements to California. Their myopic opposition to physical improvements to help people is responsible for much of the damage. Don't try to point the finger elsewhere, this calls for a major mea culpa!

You are 100% correct. The enviromentals have created the fuel that keeps the fires spreading. They do not allow controlled burns due to saving some creatures habitat which has created the fuel source between neighborhoods.

In fact.....you are only partially right!!! I'll give you cuddos for that.

Many environmentalist are opposed to blatantly unnatural human interference, for natural occurrences. The problem is in fact two fold. Due to human habitation, natural fire occurrences have become non-existent, as they are always surpressed. Tie into that that the logging industry doesn't want to incur extra costs, and ensure a regular supply of timber without a catastrophic loss, such as fire ...and basically we as a nation (Oh Canada included, as it is my country), have been basically breeding a tinderbox for a very long time.

Secondly.....hey, people, look...seriously, if you live in close proximity to nature and a natural habitat, expect the occasional natural occurance...I think it is hypocritical to say that you want to live in the forest, and then not accept that natural occurrences will happen, especially sense we have been setting the stage.

Prescribed burning, thinning etc, are natural...take a look at you parks system. Some parks do prescribed burning to remove the chance of such large scale devastation. The problem is, we don't take necessary measure around where people live, and don't make people aware that such risks are real.

Just think on that. We have created the problem, we put ourselves at risk....and it isn't just the environmentalist...industry, and city planners are as much to blame. In fact, and real environmentalist would tell you that wildfire is a necessary, beneficial occurrence in the development and renewal of any forested area in that region.
