The windows in my apartment are vertical sliding and it seems that most ac's are for horizontal windows. We are only allowed to have window ac's, not portable or wall units. Does anyone know what's out there for vertical sliding windows? I've searched a little but I'm confused!

Hi. I would recommend one from Sears called White Kenmore Slider / Casement Air Conditioner. They have one that is 12,000 BTU as well as 6,000 BTU, depending on size of room. They are actually manufactured by LG--very good reputation and well made electronics. Has 3 fan speeds, Energy Saver to cool to specific temp, and remote control. I have had one for two years AND i live in Southern California so you can imagine it gets lots of use.

Put a sturdy board on the window sill at the outside of the board attach strong wire and hang it from the two by four's. At the top get that two inch Grey tape used for packages and tape it off. You may need a piece of plastic also for a spacer.

They do make them. My Mother had the same problem but we found a used one. Not much difference in performance or controls of a horizontal unit.

They are available, but most likely you will have to order online or special order from a dealer, not usually stocked.
