Planted it in what? Definitely agree, overwatered. If it's in a pot with a drip pan, remove the pan and let it sit in the sink to drain. If it's in the ground, sounds like heavy or clay soil that won't drain. move it.

They will root in water, but don't like to be kept too wet when planted.

When ever you plant anything in the ground you must water it twice a day one in the morning and once at night ..you do it then because you cant water it if the sun is on it..It will torch the leaves...The reason why you need to water so much for the first few weeks is so the plant can root in the ground and then it will beable to find it's own water source

Hi from SC. Kalanchoes can live outside until threat of frost. Root very easily by laying leaves on potting medium in a zip type plastic bag in sunny south window. Will rebloom. Have had some frost bit ones survive - remove damaged growth and pamper a little. Good luck

sounds like it's overwatered.

kalanchoe is a succulent, meaning they retain water like a cactus. as you said, you don't need to water them much.
it would have been better to moisten the soil, then plant it

also, you could try mixing sand with the soil which will drain more water than normal potting soil.

Kalanchoes do not like cold temperatures, you should not plant them now, bring it indoors. Their leaves will go black in cold weather.
