Everything. Your furniture. Your TVs. Stereo systems. All systems. All appliances.
I know, they're things. But they're your things.
And in southern California right now, a lot of people have lost all their things.
Rich people, yes. But a lot of not-so-rich people too.
I'm glad they're alive. And I'm sure they're glad they're alive.
But they're not glad they've lost everything that made those houses homes.
Like pictures, and movies, trinkets, and heirlooms.
Some were retrieved. I bet you many were not.
I just keep thinking of letters that were saved that are gone. Old family photos of grandpa that were treasured that are now trash.
You can't put a dollar value on that. Insurance companies don't cover things like that. But I suspect people have a very tough time moving on after losing something like that.

Whether they lose those precious memories to flames, or tornadoes, or hurricanes. Or any act of nature that leaves the victim naturally at a loss.

So they move on, with a bit of their past ripped out. Eager to rebuild a house. Hoping someday it can be a home. Just not like their old home. Not like it at all.

One cannot stress enough the value of saving your pictures and other important things to a computer flash drive or something similar. I've saved all my pictures, my music and all my family tree (6 generations) to a few different flash drives and keep them somewhere other than the house. If my house burned down, I wouldn't fret over those things.

Not me personally, but in my family 6 homes were completely destroyed durning Katrina. I just had a little water and a hole in my roof. Luckily i didnt loose all my pictures and stuff like my aunt whose two story house was completely submergerd in water by the mouth of the Mississi0ppi River

I've never had to face that and although I would be happy enough if my family was safe I know a lot of those things would be missed.

Fortunately, today, a lot of my more recent photographs are uploaded to online storage sites. I should probably do more of that with old pictures that I've scanned.

I'd be devastated, but at least I'd have my precious family. I rebuild and start all over again. I know it can't be easy for those people, even the rich ones, they're in my heart and prayers. I wish them all well. Good luck. 2D
