If I got surgery (on hand) and they requested money on front, I paid with a check (under someone else that let me borrow money) and then a stop payment was issued on the check... can the clinic sue me??? I mean the $ amount will get pay by me but unfortunately periodically since I have no money.
(Figurative, it is not me)

They certainly can sue you. Additionally in most states they could seek criminal charges against you as issuing a stop payment on a check can be used to indicate an intent to pass a bad check and defraud them.
If the other person stopped payment then the criminal charges could be levied against them.
If you did not have permission to use the check you could be arrested for forgery.

Can they sue you? Yes. Will they sue you? Probably not. Just call and explain the situation; then start making payments. They cannot sue your family member because they did not receive the services.

They can. I am sure though, if you contact them and explain the situaton and offer to commence immediate regular payments they will drop the issue...until such time as you do not make one of the agreed payments.
Yes, they can sue the person who wrote the cheque as well. Writing and negotiating a cheque is a contract on the simplest level.

You probably signed papers before hand giving consent for the surgery and to be responsible for payment.
worse case is they will give it to a collection company-try to work out payments, no doctor wants to pay the collection agency to do what they can do which is collect monthly on the bill

That's not something that requires a lawsuit. It's more likely they'll have a collection agency go after you. That could hurt your credit rating, but perhaps it need not even come to that:
Just talk to them, make your apology, and tell them the truth. They might make some arrangement with you.

If you start making payment immediately, they probably will not sue. Call and speak with them. dont wait for them to take you to court.

Well sure they can, they performed a service and you didn't pay the agreed upon price. As a matter of fact, it looks like you tried to swindle them out of their money.
