HUH? Why are you concerned about summer (!) survival? Help us out........summer is often the main growing season. Do you live in a hot desert where plants may go into a semi-dormancy to survive? Roses grow in Phoenix but actually loose their leaves during the hot periods until cooler weather returns.

All depends on where you live. What plants are around you now? They apparently survived. Unless you live in the Sahara, plants survive in most places below the artic circle.

depends on where you are - look at the plants native to the area and it will give you clues. What grows well in summer there out in nature. Is it cactus or ferns?

You did not give enough info to be precise as every place is different.

depends what climate you are referring to.
what is the average high in the summer where you are?
what is the mean temp?
what is the humidity?
what climate zone are you in?
what elevation?

think of a place similar to where you want to grow the plant and then examine the kinds of plants that grow there.
i.e. desert = cacti and succulents
