First of all, please don't panic from the first answer you got (which was not helpful! and not always true!!) I had my son at 41 weeks and 4 days, 11 days late. He was fine, a little on the big side... but fine. I think the pros of him staying in for so long were that he was healthy, lungs very well developed and he is a very well adjusted happy go lucky little man. Cons would be the discomfort you are in, the horrible waiting and that kind of thing! It's better than having them too early. My best friend had both of hers 4 weeks early, they are a little behind in development (only a little) and they are also very whinny babies. Anyhow, I hope this helps calm you! Good luck and congrats!!

I would worry about delivering a 10lbs watermelon at 42 weeks!!! Chances are you'll have the baby tonight after asking. Lol.
Your doc will induce if you a) ask or b) hit the 42 week mark. Remember that the due date is an estimate. You could very well be sitting at 39 weeks...or the other way at 43 weeks. Anyway, at this point, calling your doc and asking for an induction will get the baby out. Try to get in Friday, so you have the weekend! Good Luck!!!

Babies are born anywhere from 2 weeks before their due dates or 2 weeks after their due date. The longer a baby remains in utero, the larger it can get, as the baby will continue to grow. Now, just because a baby is past it's due date, doesn't mean it is overdue...there is no way to know for sure when conception occured and the due date is only an estimation of when the baby could be born. Maybe that baby is right on schedule, and our medical estimation is off.
However, few doctors will allow a pregnancy to progress after 42 weeks because the placenta is a temporary organ, which will begin to degrade on its own after about 42 weeks. This can lead to a decrease in oxygen and nutrients to the baby and a build up of waste products, which can be detrimental. These babies can weigh less than they should due to lack of nutrients.
I hope this helps. Congratulations and good luck...it's just a matter of time now.

Your so lucky!! I'm super jelous...
Many women go past the 40th week. How long pregnancy lasts varies somewhat between women. But don't fret — you won't be pregnant forever. There's a good chance you'll go into labor on your own this week, and if you don't, you'll be induced by 42 weeks. A normal, healthy pregnancy lasts from 37 to 41 weeks. Don't worry baby will come soon!!

I wouldn't worry about it unless your Dr. is concerned. They usually do not let you go past the 42 week mark though because your placenta is old at that point & starts to break down which means it is no longer providing your baby with the proper nutrients. A pro is that your baby will definately be full term so he/she should have a good healthy start. A con is that as someone else mentioned, the baby is getting bigger in there which means a bigger baby to push out. Good luck!

i wouldnt worry too much they wont let you go past 42 weeks. i had my baby at 42 weeks according to the scans i had my baby was due mid june and i work out around the 2nd july and i had her on the that day so in my mind i was only 40 weeks along not 42 but hey had to go on the measurement of the scans. and a due date is only an estimate of when ur baby will arrive you have to remember that it is worked out from the last period you have so at that time you were not pergnant conception would have taken place aprox 14 days after your last period.
try not to worry too much the docs know what they r doing
good luck and i hope ur little 1 makes an apperance into the world soon!!!
