most Americans don't care about their privacy and freedoms anymore, they have been brainwashed, they would bend over and take it from the government just to feel protected.

I could not possibly care less if someone masturbated while listening to a phone conversation, however -- illegal spying subverts the Fourth Amendment, so I'm definitely against that part.

Couldn't care less. The way I see it, since the only phone I have is a cell phone, my calls really aren't private, anyway.
Then again, I don't have any juicy, confidential, top secret conversations, anyway.
Only thing that would bother me, if my conversations were being listened in on by the gov., would be if they started snoring really loud in the middle of my conversation. That would bug the crap outta me.

First of all, not every ones phones are tapped.Contrary to popular democratic propaganda...If you are doing something over the phone that you should not, then you should worry..
Secondly, if you are so pathetic that you have a conversation that someone could get so turned on from over the phone, you need a life...
