If you've invited a friend to visit you for vacation and they say they'd love to as soon as they get some free time. Then you ask when is their next vac'n and they say they are thinking about going to visit their parents for that break. Then they say 'we'll see', what exactly do they mean?

It means that "we will see whether I visit my parents or decide to see you".

I think they told you that their thoughts / plans were to visit parents on vacation / break .
The we'll see, keeps this an open invitation , or rather option # 2 , in the event that option # 1 for any reason fails.

Sounds like they don't have the time for you. they may only want to visit their parents and not you. i would not invite them again. unless they were my best, best friend and they just had a baby or something big in their life that i know was keeping them from coming.

People say that when they are maybe considering doing something but not really considering it very much or maybe not at all. People usually just say that to relieve the pressure off of them meaning they are just trying to get you off of their backs for the time being until you ask them again. Sorry.

They probably mean they would love to visit you, but they don't want to disappoint their parents. Maybe they already told their parents they were coming? It sounds like they are undecided and are waiting to see what happens!

Every time I say we'll see means no, but I just dont want to tell them no yet.

"We'll see" is in fact a "no" answer.

In your sentence, I take that in the context as "we'll see what happens." They don't have a definite answer now, and they don't won't to say "no" or "yes" directly. So... no promises.

Usually when they say "we'll see" it means it is a stalland they have other plans.

it means thats what they are hoping to be able to do... we'll see means that they will see if their plans are going to really turn out the way they wanted.
