Your claim that the Turks do not permit the Kurds to speak their mother tongue is not true. They can speak their own language freely at home and in their local community. But as Turkish citizens, the Kurdish population in Turkey are required to use the Turkish language in schools, businesses and official government transactions.
This is no different than in the US, where the Hispanic population are required to use the English language in schools and official government transactions.

Basically because a lot of Kurds want a country of their own, part of which would come from present-day Turkey. No country is willing to give up territory.
