They strongly suspect that these fires were not accidental, they were purposely set. They are looking for the person or persons responsible. When they catch them, what do you think should be done with them?

Jeff...I'm not assuming anything. I'm only repeating what the fire chief & fire investagators have said on the various news programs.

With the deaths of several people, they have committed a Capital offense. They are entitled to a speedy trial, the families of CA, in my opinion, are entitled to expect swift punishment for the convicted. Too bad burning at the steak isn't one of the means of punishment.

Arson is a class A felony, subject to a life sentence. If the person who started a fire in which someone died, it is a Murder 1 case with an enchancement...the arson...which exposes the defendant to the death penalty in California.
EDIT:
The murder charge can only be sustained if the person who died was killed in the fire set by the arsonist. Some of the fires were caused by natural incidents like lightening and/or lines down because of lightening. If a person died in that fire, and the arsonist started a fire two counties over, the arsonist would not be responsible for that death. For the murder charge, the victim would have to have died in the specific fire started by or spread by the arsonist.

FIRST, no arsonist has been named or caught. Second, we may have to determine for ourselves IF arson WAS the actual cause of the wildfires in CA. We are so much in need of a culprit that we lose sight of someone being innocent UNTIL proven guilty (by a jury of his/her peers) so we put blame on anything or anyone so that we can look good to the politicians and the media. What is wrong with our society? Will (or can) America ever stop putting blame and then prosecuting someone who may or may not have had any culpability in such incidents?

You assume the fires were set on purpose. What evidence is there that they weren't an accident?
Wildfires happen in California all the time. The conditions were right this time for this one to be especially bad. It's just speculation to say otherwise.

Since there were people who died, murder needs to be one of the charges.
