who is more willing to compromise on looks? the man or the woman? that is if a person doesnt fit your "standard" which gender would be more willing to compromise and accept less?

Chooing a partner on the basis of looks is quite shallow. While certain physical traits are found attractive to a person, you should choose a mate on the basis of what's inside.
Looks fade with age. Compatibility in things other than sex, being able to be friends as well as lovers and the ability to converse are far more important than "standards" that hollywood and tv tell you what is hot and what is not.
If you choose to be with someone predominantly for their physical appearance, I pity you.

Without a doubt women would compromise on looks. Men are visually stimulated, while women are emotionally stimulated. If a woman is seeing a man that treats her like a queen, but isn't necessarily that good looking she will compromise on the looks because her emotional needs are being more than satisfied. Men on the other hand are completely different...no matter how good a woman is to him, if she isn't appealing to his eye, it just won't last. Basically, women want to be pampered and men want sex.
I think this is the reason there is such a demand on women to stay thin, young, and beautiful...so that we continue to be appealing to our men. While on the other hand, our husbands can eat steak and potato 5 days a week, not exercise at all, lay around on the couch, gain 30 pounds and we still love them, because we look beyond their appearance. Now if that doesn't prove that equality doesn't exist nothing will, but it's not about being equal it's about being different and needing those differences to be happy. Men need women and women need men and we ALL compromise to some point.....just in different areas. Good luck!!!

Polls & survey answer> This is a very specific question with only general terminology. Ideally speaking each and every instance of this would be as unique and individual as not just one person, but the physical and mental attributes of two specific people. Therefor the answer would be...It depends on both the one with the standard and the one below the standard.
Marrige & divorce answer> If you have to ask, then you won't last very long. Marriage is a Union of two individuals. They each become we and no longer I. This union makes everything a give and take situation. No, it is nothing like 50/50. It is 100/100. Both parties give 100% as a contribution to the union. Thus with a true Union, giving is receiving.

I don't think there is a specific gender that does it more than any other i believe all people realize as they grow older and get to know other people that there is no one perfect person out there. Just a person who you feel is perfect for you. regardless if they are not who you believed to be your "ideal" candidate.
So in that sense i think we all compromise to an extent.

my husband tells me all the time if i get fat or skinny hes leaving weather that's true or what i tell him not let the door hit him in the as s..but i look the same hes the one putting on the weight but oh well people change thats life

usually the women, you see more men leaving their wives for the younger girls than you do woman leaving their husbands for that reason.
