also the bottom draw keeps freezing the veggies and ruining them, are these two problems related, is there hope for this fridge or is it time for a new one?

The banging noise of your ref after it shuts off is because of the worn out balancing pair of springs inside the compressor holding the motor assembly inside your compressor. This is partly due to the high back pressure of the refrigerant in the system. You should be lucky if it would last for some years before the compressor would stuck up. It is advisable to move the condenser side ( the one getting hot) at the back of your ref further away from the wall as this will ensure adequate condensation of the refrigerant preventing high back pressures when the system is cycling on and off.

my refrigerator does the same thing when the compressor shuts down its probably the mounts or the springs
