I call it by it's brand. Coke, Pepsi, 7-Up, etc.
Thats the way we do it in America comrade.
If I am talking about all of them, it's Soda Pop. Even though traditionally, the drink originated at Soda fountains and should therefore, be called soda.

I'm from Canada. We call it pop. But if the brand is coke, than coke will do just fine.
I'm thinking of spending some time in the land of soda though.

Missouri - depending on the area it is either pop or soda.... unless you are talking about the actual brand coke then we say coke.
if someone says "i want a coke" someone will give them a coke..
if someone says " i want a soda/pop" someone will ask "what kind"

We had long discussion about this subject when I was at camp. We went into the dinning hall and I asked one of my buddies, "Do you want to get some pop?"
He just gave me a funny look and asked, "What's pop?" (He was from New York; I'm from Colorado)
I said, "Ya, know, soda pop." The whole day we argued what was the right way to say "carbonated beverage.".

I'm from Minnesota and we always called it "pop."
Now I live in New England, and it's "soda" here.
p.s. A little aside, in Minnesota we called ice cream mixed together with a little milk and flavor a "shake" and a mostly milk with some flavor mixed up was a "frappe." Here it's exactly the opposite. go figure

Virginia, Southern, we call it a coke, but I have heard it called soda. In utah, where I lived, it was called soda. In Washington, where I was born, it was called pop. I never call it sodapop, because it reminds me of that movie, The Outsiders," where there was a chartacter named Sodapop.
