I would also vote Luxor

I like this one too

The Orleans is about 1 mile West of the strip, but they have a free shuttle to the strip.
The Orleans is one of our favorites and was selected as the #2 best value hotel in the World by tripadvisor.com
We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years.

Well, the best place I've found that details Hotel amenities, location, and rates, is http://www.myvegassecret.com.
I'm going to Las Vegas in December and staying at one of my favorite hotels, the MGM Grand, they have great rates right now at $99 a night which is awesome for that Hotel considering its amenities.... I believe they are also offering a Free upgrade to a suite if you go stay through the week. I've always had a great time at this hotel, you're accross the road from Tropicana which offers $ 5 blackjack tables which is probably the most affordable you'll find in Vegas. ( Casino Royale also has $ 5 tables but they are in the Center part of the strip) Tropicana also still has quarter slots where you actually get rained by quarters if you win which I think its pretty cool rather than just getting a ticket.
You are only a step away from Mandalay Bay which I love to go to at night time, as I love the atmosphere there, very party like, elegant yet subtle......
The MGM has the monorail which connects you to MGM,
Bally's/Paris, Flamingo/Caesars Palace,
Harrah's/Imperial Palace, the Las Vegas
Convention Center, Las Vegas Hilton
and the Sahara.
So even thought the MGM is all the way South of the strip, you can make your way to the center or north in just a few minutes.
At the end of the day, I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for, you can certainly find some very good rates at some of the hotels in Vegas, that is true and the experience can be just as well as staying at one of the higher end hotels (although not as likely) but staying at places like MGM, Mandalay Bay, Mirage, New York New York.... you just can't go wrong....
Now that we've all giving you our opinions, I would go to a website like www.myvegassecret.com and take a look for yourself as to what location, amenities and rates you are looking for....
Good luck and have fun....

November is a great time for deals in Vegas. Keep you eyes open.
As for the best location, I would avoid the north strip (Circus, Circus, Stratosphere, Hilton, Riviera) because there is a lot of construction going on there now. You will have a longer walk to get to most places. However, there will still be plenty to do in those areas.
As for amenites, most places offer the same ammenities. High end places like The Wynn, Venitian, Paris, and Caesars will offer a lot more, but those rooms are the most expensive you will find.
Places like TI, Planet Hollywood, Luxor, Monte Carlo, and MGM are a bit cheaper. They are decent places. The amenities are all comparable to each other.
Imperial Palace and Circus Circus are two of the most popular places to get deals. But everything is very hit and miss. I have heard stories of dirty rooms, smell of mold in rooms, bath tubs backing up. These things are still rare, but they seem to happen more often at the lower priced hotels. The amenities are nothing special, but the deals are excellent. And the location of the IP is excellent.
If you are trying to find a good balance, I would suggest looking at:
-Tropicana. Very good deals, very old school casino (some people like it, some don't. Either way, the place has a nice charm to it) Amenities are nothing special, but decent.
- Harrahs
- Flamingo
- Bally's
The last three are a bit more expensive, but not by much. The hotels are a lot more modern.
Check out each hotel's website and sign up for their e-newsletter. Novemeber is a slow time for Vegas, so rooms will be cheaper. Lots of places send out e-mail only deals. If a week is looking to be much slower than expected, then they will often send out an e-mail letting you know of a cheaper price. Each casino is very good about not spamming you.

I really like the Luxor. The Tower rooms are spacious and lovely. The whole Egyptian theme is really cool too. It also has a great buffet, nice upscale restaurants, and a food court so there are plenty of food choices. There is a tram that connects it to Excalibur and Mandalay Bay making very easy access to those hotels/casinos. The Luxor is also located on the southern part of the strip and within easy walking distance to NYNY, MGM (where you can catch the monorail), Monte Carlo, Tropicana and all those south and central hotels. The prices are also generally moderatly priced: not the least expensive, but certainly not the most expensive. Great hotel for the money. I highly recommend the Luxor!! You can read other traveler reviews and see candid traveler photos at www.tripadvisor.com. I use their site quite a bit when researching hotels. Good luck!

My vote would be for Excalibur or the Luxor. Great location, closer to the airport side, internal tram service (between Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur) and close to the Monorail (across the street at MGM). Don't do Hooters. It's not worth the low price and you could definitely find something much better. But check around you could find an awesome deal at a higher priced hotel. I went in Aug. found a few deals. Stayed in a $700 a night room for $120 per night at Caesar's palace and stayed in a $180 room for $96 per night at the Flamingo. Keep your eyes open for deals. I found all of my deals on Travel zoo.com. (see link below).
Have a Great Trip!

There are many nice hotels in hotel that have great features. However, I am curious as to how you are going to book your hotel. How much commission will you make and how many tax deductions can you claim from your travel? Local travel agents, travel websites, airlines and hotels are getting rich off of your hard earned money. Did you realize that when you book with a local travel agent, on line with an over advertised website, airline or hotel, you are being their unpaid travel agent. If you, your family and friends are going to travel then why not book on your own travel website, travel wholesale (not retail) and get paid doing it. While a vacation is nice, a "paycation" is even better. Please think about it. Finding the links with all the details and contact info is easy

For best price and location combined, Imperial Palace gets my vote. I have stayed there twice and enjoyed both stays. I have also stayed at Tropicana and Statosphere but prefer IP because of location. I'm not one to spend a ton of money on a hotel room when I'm not going to be in there that much - just long enough to shower and sleep.

Luxor is less expensive for high end hotels because its on one side of the strip. Imperial palace is pretty good right in the middle of the strip...good prices!

Excalibur, also the Sahara is on the end of the strip, but the tram stops there and the rooms are nice and cheap. 45 bucks during the week and around 99 on weekends.
