Check the starter solenoid when the bike won't start.
The battery positive cable goes to the starter solenoid.
Touch it when you try to start - if that's where the click comes from, then you're getting close to the problem.
Turn on the key and touch both large terminals of the solenoid at the same time with a large screwdriver (careful of sparks).
If the starter turns the engine, then the solenoid is bad - replace it.
If the starter won't turn the engine - the battery is weak.
Check the bike's charging system and the condition of the battery.

The fact it seems to start when its cold might indicate its not the battery - on many motorbikes there is a starter relay type switch that controls power to the starter motor - test your start motor circuitry using a 12v bulb and disconnect the power to the starter - the bulb should be able to light continually with the starter button held in. Other than that drive down to friendly dealer on the bike with it warm - switch off and see if its having problems - if it is walk in and ask to try a new battery - else try a friends battery before buying one !!!
