do we have to kill animals for their fur, skin, tusks etc. Why don't we just use animals that have already died of natural causes?

we don't kill sheep when we use their wool....we shave it off while they're still alive and they get to live on.

No cow is killed specifically for leather, all cow leather is a by-product of the meat industry. If it wasn't used for leather, then the leather would go to waste and fill up dwindling land fill sites. This would be extremely wasteful. I hope you are not basing your opinion on PETA propaganda because they do little to help animals that are in real crisis and animals that are in danger of extinction.

There are groups working to ensure endangered animals aren't used for tusks, skins or furs, and surprisingly PETA is NOT one of them. They do not operate animal shelters, they do not give a penny to wildlife preserves, they do not rescue threatened animals in the wild and they do not lobby government to stop habitat destruction. They do nothing to actually improve the welfare of animals. If you do want to help animals then World Wildlife Fund is the place to go to to see what you can do to help the endangered animals close to where you live. There might be an endangered species in your back yard.

Also look into WSPA, World Society for the Protection of Animals. they do more to help animal welfare and to combat animal cruelty than peta could ever hope to accomplish. while peta is vandalizing beef farms, these people are out there rescuing animals in real danger.

Interestingly enough, neither WSPA or WWF say much about farmed and ranched furs such as mink, chinchilla, or leather; as none of these are inherently cruel. Don't believe it when you hear that animals are skinned alive, That's a lie and the peta videos on you tube are fake and lies and propaganda. WSPA and WWF have far more important issues to deal with.

Here's an article about what happens if you take abandoned animals to peta: http://www.american-partisan.com/cols/2003/gibson/qtr3/0903.htm they aren't very ethical to abandoned cats and dogs.

This is an ongoing battle and you must choose your battles.

I'm a fashion diva myself..but my reason for wearing fur would be more so for warmth but also in moderation.

I suffer from a circulation disorder which makes me feel cold as soon as the temperature drops.

I mostly own wool coats, some with fake fur trim trim a few fake fur hats, but I do have one fur trimmed hat and gloves to match. I would feel uncomfortable wearing a full length genuine fur coat because I can imagine that it would take so many to make a long coat.

My mother has a beautiful designer animal print (fake) fur coat that I wear sometimes and people have asked me if it was real. I didn't think it looked real, but I thought that was something.

I never liked the little fox stole that is basically a gutted fox with the head and the tail attached...Ew...I don't think that is fashion at all.

I know it upsets you but try visiting a store that has a vault of furs and try one on two on and you will understand why people buy them and wear them. No wool coat has ever made me feel the way a silver fox coat can.

Sheep are still tortured when shaving off their fur. They shave it off so quickly that many of the sheep have cuts and serious injuries. I agree with you, animals need their fur more than us. I watched a video about fur on the PETA website and I was horrified at the Chinese Fur Trade when I saw them skin an animal alive and the animal was still alive after that. I refuse to buy fur and no animal should go through torture like that.

Well...sheep can do without their wool since you can harvest it without taking the skin as well. Waiting for animals to die of "natural causes" will cause a shortage....
I fully believe God put animals on this earth to provide us with ways of making shoes, eating, wearing warm clothes...etc...(also see in the Bible about "killing the fatted calf" and sacrificing lambs....also, where do you think they got the leather to make sandals?)....
Nowadays where there is synthetic clothing, I feel the need to kill animals solely for their hides is wrong.
However, I have seen some people rail on about how they would NEVER wear leather, while standing in line to order a Big Mac.
Each person must do what they feel is right for THEM...and stop persecuting others who do not feel as they do....(for example., throwing red paint on someone who is wearing a fur)....I don't wear fur because I think it's a shameful waste of money...
What a great country I live in (USA) that allows us each to have our opinion...and not persecute us for it....!!!!!!!!!!

How can you find an animal that died a natural death? They will be rotten. Animals used to live where your house is . Do you feel guilty about that. Animals used to live where we grow your food? Do you feel guilty about that. We all encroach on nature. The best we can do is live environmentally responsible as we can .

You can be a huge fashion fan and not wearing fur !
I would never put a dead animal on my shoulders!
And I only wear faux-leather shoes, they're less expensive so I can bought more! !

I am not into fur altho I wear leather shoes. I would guess sick or dying animals have ratty fur.

Because it's hard to get that decaying flesh stench out of the fur...

**EDIT**
You asked about "skin." If you take an animal's skin, then its insides will be on the outside. To acquire lambskin, the lamb has to die.
