It's an exercise. So...some of you are close.

Mao? We love Chairman Mao. We hate that other guy, the splitter...

I was a computer operator in 1972. Sure, it was hand-cranked, but it could compute...

We've established a pattern...
The whole world hates Hitler still
Half of the world hates Nixon
All of Africa hates Amin
Who does all of China hate in 1972?
Who does the Arab world hate in 1972?

Actually, there were computers in 1972. The first 8-bit microprocessor shipped that year. And, more significantly, it's the year PONG shipped...

But to answer the question (which sounds like it came out of a UNIVAC) -- Here's my attempt:

1. Adolf Hitler
2. Mao Tze Tung
3. Josef Stalin
4. Ho Chi Minh
5. Judas Iscariot

I don't think Nixon would have made the list, because in 1972 the Watergate scandals hadn't yet peaked... And in any event, as much as he was despised for his actions, I don't think he held a candle to the extreme emotions evoked by mere mention of these other characters...

(P.S. The splittest you mentioned -- do you mean Lin Biao? Lol...!)

ADDITIONAL:
OK, so you are telling us the correct ones are:

Hitler
Nixon (so much for my guess that Watergate hadn't peaked)
Idi Amin

So there are two left:

1. All of China hates Lin Biao in 1972. So much that photos that had him in them were airbrushed to remove him.

2. And 1972 was the year the Israeli Olympic team was murdered in Munich... so... I would guess Yassir Arafat?

Except that you are saying "who does the Arab world hate"... I would imagine most of the Arab world sides with Palestine at this point (except mayyyyybe Egypt...) In which case... they hate... Israeli P.M. Golda Meir?! Her response to the murdered athletes was to bomb the bejeezus out of her Arab neighbors...

There were no computers in 1972. There were data processors that processed punch cards. But no computers as you know them today.
edit:
I would guess in 1972 Ho Chi Minh of North Vietnam was on that list.

I would make a bet, that nobody in Asia and Africa was asked and that is 80% of the worlds population. So, my guessis, it was a European/North America thing.

Hitler
Stalin
Chairman Mao
Idi Amin
Fidel Castro

(If these names were left out, the computer was flawed.)
