For years we went crazy on the decorations when we had a beautiful old house right on the corner, in a neighborhood setting. Nothing tacky, but we left nothing undecorated. My electricity bill would triple in December.
What about you?

I say go for it! If you have the budget (or make room for it) : ) Then do it. Wasn't it the lights and everyones houses and yards being beautifully decorated with greens, reds, silvers, and golds exactly what got you excited about Christmas when you were a child? If you can afford to do it or have been honored with decorations from someone else (Go to Town, Santa!)

Sounds wonderful! That is my dream for when I own a house. For now, we are still renting so we must keep all of our decorations inside. Still, I like to leave every room with something Christmasy to add to the joy everywhere you go. A Christmas Dickens village, greens and candles, a beautiful tree, Christmas teacups and teapots and figurines...the list is endless!

I really don't like houses that are crazy with decorations. I don't know, it just looks tacky to me. No offence! I like simple coloured lights! If there's snow, the reflection on the snow is gorgeous. So no, I don't go crazy! I'm definitely minimalist in that sense. ;o)

Consider using LEDs or computerized control of your lights. Last year, I had 20,000 lights (most of them were incandescent minis) and my bill only went up $50 for the entire month.
