Primary evidence is by someone who was there at the historical moment.

Secondary evidence is a source who was not there.

If John writes a book about the D-Day invasion, and interviews soldiers who were on Utah beach, those interviews are Primary evidence. The book he writes is secondary evidence.

Photographs of the event would be primary sources, btw.

Primary evidence is artefacts or documents that wewre around at the time. Secondary evidence is things like photos of them. For example, if you were srudying World War II, the primary evidence might be a gas mask or ration book or a piece of military. equipment or maybe an actual letter form the time. Secondary evidence would be photos of these things, or the results of someone else's research. Hope this helps.
