Long story short, my husband cheated and then assaulted me when I confronted him. We are now seperated with a protective order...oh did I mention I'm 8 months pregnant. Money is tight and I want out ASAP. Any help would be appreciated.

One can ask for emergency family maintenance in the protective order - can still ask for it even if the judge issued an order.

Emotions are running high and a cooling off period is essential, given the impending birth of the baby.

The Cheaters website may have some tips for dealing with the above situation.

You asked about Maryland and the answers you are getting are all over the map.
Maryland requires a one year separation for a no-fault divorce. If you are going to go forward on grounds of adultery, there is no waiting period but you do have to prove adultery if he does not admit it.
Since you are pregnant, you also have child support issues so you may want to wait until after the child is born to seek child support.
If you need financial support now, you can file an emergency petition for immediate assistance. You may want to talk to an attorney for assistance in these matters. The Bar has a legal referral service and the first consultation is free or low cost.

If you want to do it yourself, I have included a link to the forms for Maryland.

If you want to talk to an attorney, many attorneys will give you a free consultation. Try the state bar association for your county for a referral to an attorney who specializes in family law.
Best of luck to you and your baby.

First you need to file divorce papers i know legal aid use to do it I'm not sure if they still do then when your husband signs them you get your date to go in front of the judge. To make it go fast if you can get someone to tell the judge that they know you and your husband has not been together for 12 months the judge will grant you a divorce. I have been divorce two times in Maryland.

Go to family court and see if you can file on your own (Pro Se Divorce) No lawyers and no big fees. Once you file your divorced 90 days later and this is rather he contests it or not. In CT it cost me $235 filing fee and $990 to serve him out of state. He doesnt even have to show up to court. Quick simple and your done. Good for you in getting out of that and good luck with the baby.
